Your first 30 minutes

Both terminals work the same way once you are through immigration and baggage claim. You can buy an AREX Express ticket with a foreign card even with no won on you — and if you do want cash, the ATMs and exchange desks are below.

  1. 1
Go down to B1 of the Transportation Center

Whichever terminal you landed at, the AREX station is on B1 of the Transportation Center. The ticket machines and the Express customer centre are on that same floor, so head down first and decide there.

  2. 2
Choose between the Express and the all-stop train

The Express runs nonstop to Seoul Station with reserved seats and a separate ticket. The all-stop train you simply tap into, and it also calls at Hongik Univ. Compare the times and fares per terminal in the table below — Express if you have heavy bags and are staying near Seoul Station, all-stop if you are staying in Hongdae or Yeonnam.

  3. 3
Buy your ticket — cards work here

Express tickets can be paid for with credit cards issued in Korea or abroad. For the all-stop train, buy a single-journey card at a station ticket machine — the 500 won deposit comes back at a refund machine at your destination. Travelling more than once? Buy a prepaid transit card at a station convenience store or card vending machine and top it up at the ticket machines. Need cash or an exchange desk? See the ATM and currency lists above — at T1 there is a 24-hour ATM right beside the ticket machines on B1.

  4. 4
Taking a taxi? Check the stand number first

Regular (mid-size) taxis wait at stands 5C, 6C and 6D on level 1 of Terminal 1, and stand 7C on level 1 of Terminal 2. Incheon Airport is a shared operating zone for Seoul, Incheon and parts of Gyeonggi (Bucheon, Gwangmyeong, Gimpo, Goyang), so no out-of-zone surcharge applies to those six cities. Touts with call vans posing as taxis work away from the stands — board only at a marked stand.

FAQ

How do I get from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station?

Take the AREX airport railway from B1 of the Transportation Center at either terminal. The Express runs nonstop — 43 minutes from Terminal 1 and 51 minutes from Terminal 2, ₩13,000 for an adult, reserved seats, ticket bought separately. The all-stop train takes 59 minutes from Terminal 1 (₩4,750) and 66 minutes from Terminal 2 (₩5,350) with a transit card; some services run 2 to 6 minutes longer.

Express or all-stop train — which should I take?

The all-stop train is the better deal unless you are in a hurry: ₩4,750 from Terminal 1 versus ₩13,000, for about 16 extra minutes. Take the Express if you have heavy bags and want a reserved seat, or if you have no Korean won yet — Express tickets can be paid for with internationally issued credit cards. Take the all-stop train if you are staying in Hongdae or Yeonnam, because the Express does not stop there.

How do I get from Incheon Airport to Hongdae or Yeonnamdong?

Take the all-stop train to Hongik Univ. Station — the Express does not stop there. With a transit card it is ₩4,650 from Terminal 1 and ₩5,250 from Terminal 2, two stops before Seoul Station, and you can transfer to Line 2 or the Gyeongui-Jungang Line. AREX publishes journey times to Seoul Station only, so we do not quote minutes for Hongik Univ.

How much is a taxi from Incheon Airport, and do they take foreign cards?

Korean taxis take cards, including international ones, and there is no tipping. A regular mid-size taxi starts at ₩4,800 toward Seoul plus distance, with late-night surcharges between 22:00 and 04:00. Queue at stands 5C, 6C or 6D on level 1 of Terminal 1, or stand 7C at Terminal 2. If you want English-speaking service, the International Taxi uses flat zone fares to Seoul from stand 4C (T1) or 3C (T2). Airport information: 1577-2600.

Where can I store luggage after landing at Incheon Airport?

Not at the airport — leave your bags where you get off the train. Hapenstance in Umbrella near Hongik Univ. Station is open 24 hours, which matters for late arrivals; Sideway sits beside Gyeongui Line Forest Trail in Yeonnam; and Hoduga is one stop from Seoul Station at City Hall, within walking distance of Myeongdong. Storage is ₩4,500 per bag per day for small bags, ₩6,000 medium and ₩8,000 large, with loss and damage covered by LIT. Book at lifeistravel.io — no Korean phone number and no app required.
